Connie in Morocco and Beyond

These are my travel experiences beginning with my Peace Corps service in Morocco from 2006-2008. At the request of friends and my own desire to document, I continued blogging my journeys to other countries as well as in the U. S., including my service as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in South Africa for most of 2014. This blog will continue as my travel journal.

SNOWING. Crazy spring weather. Am going to a coffee discussion this morning on the book, "The Shack" led by a Methodist minister. Should be interesting; I enjoyed the read. Have my Financial Fitness classes about ready that begin next week, now just need to find some warm bodies to fill those seats, which is not an easy task.

RAINY DAYS... or something get me down. Wow, a big thud this afternoon...don't know what came over me, but hit a big low. I think I'm still having a harder time adjusting back to life here than I realize. I met a woman my age who just was coming into the PC in Morocco before I left. She had served in another country before, came home for less than a year and joined up again because she couldn't re-adapt. (I'm not thinking of doing that) Another friend I served with just took a six-month assignment in the Phillipines to start up a Habitat for Humanity organization. That sounds so neat, and something I'd love to do, but not until this winter. I just seem to be at odds with my life/work right now. I know it will pass, and it probably is just rainy days...sigh...

RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM in Simi Valley.
Here is party symbol, which is actually quite small. The building photo is not the main entrance, but the section shown holds the Air Force One used at that time. It is quite modest compared to Air Force One of today.

For some reason, I seem to have an attraction to bronzed men. Guess it's because they're the only ones who will put up with me?!

These beautiful flowers edge the walkways and driveways. So lovely.
This is Reagan's gravesite, with his fine quote shown.
A nice place to finish a wonderful week.

SEAL BEACH.

Jazzy and I were not to be deterred again from jumping in the ocean. Even though it was a windy day, we played in the waves for awhile, but others (Heide, her friend, and my cousin)were not as adventurous.

This is my deceased
cousin's husband
with his friend.
Mike is nearly
83...and goes like
the Energizer bunny.
I have so many
wonderful older friends
who are my role models!

Yes, we ate
peanuts and
crackerjacks.
The Dodgers
won this game,
by the way.

CORRIGAN PARK AND ROCKY PEAK.

Jazzy, lizards,
and movies!

During the hike with my granddaughter to Rocky Peak, we saw many lizards, but fortunately, no rattle snakes!

There were numerous
movies filmed in
this park originally
owned by a fellow
named Corrigan,
including this one
starring John Wayne
and Henry Fonda,
which I'm sure all
my readers
have seen.(?!)

A beautiful but very windy day prevented us from doing much real beach time, but we did enjoy a little museum on the wharf.

Some sea life I have never seen were Sea Hares, one of which is shown here. University biology students work there, and assist with hands-on touch tanks that hold various types of sea life.

Santa Barbara has a touristy main
street with lots of shops, and along the way is this little plaza with some
interesting bronzes, so of course,
had to get my picture taken with Ben.

SIMI VALLEY, CA. (Original blog: SITES NOT SEEN in Montana on my morning walks in April. Drop-dead gorgeous rose bushes...even in front of gas stations. A snail crossing a sidewalk and leaving snail tracks. Wish I would have had my camera with me~)

Here's the original "Welcome" sign on the old road, and a view of Simi Valley from Rocky Peak.

EASTER GREETINGS! Today the Relay for Life team at church is doing a breakfast fund raiser, so I'm about to make an egg casserole to accompany the muffins I made and froze for the event. Then I am singing with the choir; it is great to once again be singing after about a 5-year absence. Dinner with one of my sisters and her husband at a local restaurant, then fly away to sunny California. Since we're predicted to have rain/snow here this week, my timing seems to be pretty good. Will be doing a few little excursions and seeing other friends and family there as well, so watch for photos.

BLUE SKIES, SMILING AT ME! Oh how wonderful is this spring weather! And the anticipation of spending a week in CA with daughter and grandaughter soon is uplifting, as well.

Had a fun weekend recently w/grandsons; we went to the Yellowstone Art Museum where they painted (wooden) eggs, then the stayed the night with me. We had a little lesson in Yahtzee, and just hung out. Fun.
