Connie in Morocco and Beyond

These are my travel experiences beginning with my Peace Corps service in Morocco from 2006-2008. At the request of friends and my own desire to document, I continued blogging my journeys to other countries as well as in the U. S., including my service as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in South Africa for most of 2014. This blog will continue as my travel journal.

I DREAMED OF AFRICA...

Going to Africa WAS but a dream, and winning a raffle helped make it come true. "I Dreamed of Africa" is a movie made in 2000 with Kim Basinger. Here I was on the old set in South Africa, petting a caracel, which is a wild cat. Our guide has raised these since they were babies, so they are quite tame. They are kept in a cage during the day, and in some of the first scenes of the movie (which indicates it's in Kenya) you can see the cat's cage.

Our guide is holding a python; one previous group had six people holding a very large one!

Lots of water buffalo, but I especially liked this image of them all cooling off in the muddy water during the heat of the day.

I fell in love with the wonderful creatures. Zebra stripes are like fingerprints; no two are exactly the same.

Got to pet this giraffe, also another animal taken care from infancy by our guide. They are such gracefully awkward (?!)animals.

What a beast! One of them charged our jeep...it sure got our heart rates up. Quite a scare!

Don't mess
with this
big momma!

This pride was having a relaxing morning...
